Residential real estate is a 24/7 deal. Successful Realtors (unlike doctors, lawyers and maybe even Indian chiefs) are on call all the time. So are buyers. You might say our motto is “We Never Close.”
Because you never know when the right opportunity will appear. I’ve written offers on the hood of my car, or on my phone while sitting on an airport tarmac in Panama City. I wrote an offer just 16 hours after giving birth to my second son.
And someone has to sign that offer. The buyer has to be ready to drop everything in order to put his or her John Hancock on the dotted line. Today that means getting to a place where a smart device will work. Not so long ago, it meant finding the nearest fax machine.
But beware buyer burnout! If you’re feeling discouraged or frustrated, the solution is not necessarily to double down on trolling the internet for new or overlooked listings.
The better course of action may be to actively disconnect from the search. Agree with your agent about a length of time to stay away. Put all your feeds on hold. Or literally take a vacation to a place where there’s no WiFi or mobile phone coverage. (Same goes for you, Mr. or Ms. Agent.)
Whether it’s a month or a week or a long holiday weekend (Memorial Day anyone?) it’ll benefit you in the long run:
As the columnist Earl Wilson said, “A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you’ve been taking.”
